Yes, it is better that people send direct mail to gisideas.secretary@gmail.com instead of this list.
This was informed to the participants and also mentioned specifically on the form but there seems to be some confusion.
This mailing list is for discussions and announcements of common interest and matters of individual interest need to be sent the the GIS-IDEAS Secretariat mail address (gisideas.secretary@gmail.com) and *not* to this mailing list.
