Hi,
as you say, they are quite similar. That's an approximated comparison, but it was made almost five years ago and they have grown a lot. As far as I know, some of the named QGIS pros are included in the latest version of gvSIG. The comparison was made on the 1.11 version, and now there is a 2.x branch with a lot of new features and a new architecture, that allows to develop new plugins without affecting other parts of the application. It's more stable than 1.x branch.
Some of these features are: Raster projection on-the-fly, portable version for Windows, Linux and Mac, access to R (https://blog.gvsig.org/2016/09/29/towards-gvsig-2-3-r-extension/), or a powerful scripting module (https://blog.gvsig.org/2016/12/05/course-about-geographic-scripting-with-gvs...).
There's also an application for mobile devices (Android) called Geopaparazzi that is compatible with gvSIG (here you can see the workshop given at the International gvSIG Conference some weeks ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imf7Zdyb6Ek).
Another novelties are that the new 3D extension in gvSIG 2.x is based on the World Wind application of NASA and the access to LiDAR data from gvSIG 2.3.1.
I forgot to send you another interesting links: - tutorial in English: https://blog.gvsig.org/2016/09/09/free-gvsig-tutorial-in-english-analyzing-s...
- Video-tutorials: https://blog.gvsig.org/2016/05/11/gvsig-video-tutorials/
Meir, I won't be in the conference in Hyderabad, but I'm contacting a collaborator from India who probably will go. I will let you know it.
Best regards, Mario

Hi Mario, Impressive piece of software. I have been playing with Qgis and for what I see it is quite similar. How would you compare both? Are you attending the conference in Hyderabad? Regards, Meir

Hi Arun,
here you have several workshops/webinars in English about gvSIG, an open source GIS, that can be interesting for you:

They are not specified for remote sensing tools, but they can help you to start.
Then, if you access to the Tools->Geoprocessing->Toolbox menu from a View, you can find more than 200 geoprocessing tools, including several ones for remote sensing.
You can download the application from http://www.gvsig.com/en/products/gvsig-desktop/downloads
