Dear All; *Requesting nominations for the David A. Hastings Award* The FOSS4G-Asia 2018 organizing committee is proud to announce the inaugural *David A. Hastings Award* for exceptional contributions to the Free and Open Source Software for Geospatial (FOSS4G) community in Asia. Recipients may have helped spread FOSS4G in academia, promoted the use of FOSS4G in projects in Asia, or also helped translate front-end FOSS4G tools in local languages *"David was an early influence on FOSS4G, having written a GRASS GIS How to , as well as being heavily involved in the first FOSS4G event at Chula University in Bangkok Thailand in 2004, where he helped bring the future founders of the annual FOSS4G event Venkatesh Raghavan, Markus Neteler, and Jeff McKenna together; indeed they shared many laughs and stories on that special trip together. He also led an âInstallfestâ at that FOSS4G 2004 event, which set the tone for so many future events. David would later go on to study at the global level a measurement of human development and happiness, what he coined as the Human Security Index. Dr. David A. Hastings unfortunately left us for his heavenly abode on the 13th of November, 2017. He leaves behind wonderful memories and deep sense of appreciation with all his friends and colleagues. David is survived by his gracious wife his son currently residing in Colorado, USA. He will be missed for his wisdom and wit and his contributions long remembered."* The organizing committee is *requesting nominations* for the *David A. Hastings Award*. Dear FOSS4G Community, I am Junyoung CHOI, co-chair of FOSS4G-ASIA 2023 Seoul. We'd like to inform you of the submission deadline for FOSS4G-ASIA 2023 Seoul CfP. The deadline is August 11th, 2023, and 12 days left. FOSS4G-Asia 2023 will be held at the Seoul Hall of Urbanism & Architecture(SHUA) from 28th November to 2nd December 2023 as an in-person event. But hybrid participation is also open to the community. FOSS4G-Asia 2023 Seoul is the first event providing a Travel Grant Programme for Asian Community Members and preparing special events for co-developing the Asian FOSS4G communities such as 'the Seoul Declarations on the FOSS4G-Asia development' & round table dialogue, UN-Open GIS workshop. Also, we will prepare a variety of B2B meetings for Asian Communities, a side-event of FOSS4G & a 15-minute city planning(UN-Habitat UTC). Dear All, As you may be aware, the FOSS4G-Asia 2023(https://foss4g.asia/2023/) will take place in Seoul from 28th Nov. to 2dn Dec. 2023. On behalf of the Seoul team, I'd like to share 2 things about the conference here. 1. Travel Grants Program(TGP) Yes, Travel Grants are available! To make it a more diverse and inclusive event, Travel Grants will be provided to individuals from Asian countries, with a focus on assisting those who would not be able to attend otherwise. July 6th is the last date for showing your chapter/organisation's interest in hosting the FOSS4G-Asia 2023. As you are aware, FOSS4g-Asia is the premier FOSS4G event in Asia. It is conducted once in two years and brings together researchers and practitioners involved in developing Free & Open-Source solutions for/in the Asian region. If you are interested, please hurry up in indicating your interest in hosting the same. You can do so by filling and submitting the online EOI form [1] before end of day 6th July 2022 (AoE Time Zone [7]). After the FOSS4G-Asia 2021 held in Nepal [1] and the successful events in in 2014 [2], 2017 [3] and 2018 [4], we are happy to announce the fifth FOSS4G-Asia event. FOSS4g-Asia is conducted as a bi-annual event bringing together researchers and practitioners involved in developing Free & Open Source solutions for/in the Asian region. We are now looking for a host for the FOSS4G-Asia 2023 event to be held during October-December 2023 and are looking forward to receive an Expression of Interest (EOI) to organize FOSS4G-Asia 2023. Interested organizations can indicate their intent in hosting by filling and submitting the online EOI form [5] before end of day 30th June 2022 (AoE Time Zone [7]).
