[Foss4ga.discuss] About FOSS4G-Asia 2020 Host Selection

Dear All, The FOSS4G-Asia 2020 host/venue selection has been completed. Update about the voting process and results as below; a) The voting period was between 9-13 December, 2019 b) Each member of the selection committee was requested cast vote for first and second choice for host and venue and going through the proposals and Q&A responses [1]. c) The team with the most first place votes was to be selected as host for The FOSS4G-Asia 2020. d) Voting was 100% e) No tie had to be resolved f) The Nepal team secured the maximum number of votes as first choice I would like to thank the South Korea and Nepal teams for putting forth excellent proposals and promptly responding to all the queries. Congratulations to the Nepal team on being selected as host for FOSS4G-Asia 2020! Look forward to all your cooperation and active participation to make FOSS4G-Asia 2020 a great success. Dear All, Below is an update on the present status of selecting host for FOSS4G-Asia 2020; 1) Letter of Interest for 3 teams, namely, Thailand, South Korea and Nepal [1] have been received. We thank the three teams for expressing their interest in organizing FOSS4G-Asia 2020 2) Details explaining the process of selection are available at [1] 3) We now invite more detailed (max 4 A4 pages) from the Thailand, Nepal and South Korea teans. The proposal should include items listed in [1]. The teams can refer to 2018 proposals available [2]. 3) The deadline for submission of proposals is 30 November, 2019 (Saturday) midnight UTC time [3]. 4) Q&A period on the submitted bid is from 1-6 December, 2019. Dear Conference Committee Members of FOSS4G Asia, On behalf of OSGeo Korean Chapter, Iâm very pleased to submit this LOI for hosting FOSS4G Asia 2020 in Seoul. Date: 19~21st August 2020 Venue: COEX, Seoul [1] Main Organizer: OSGeo Korean Chapter, Smart Geo Expo Organizing Committee Weâd like to host FOSS4G Asia 2020 in conjunction with Smart Geo Expo 2020[2], one of the largest Geospatial Trade Fair and Conference in Asia. By doing this we can reduce cost and increase opportunities for FOSS4G Asia attendees. At first FOSS4G Asia attendees could experience many programs of Smart Geo Expo 2020 at free and could learn various aspects of geospatial businesses other than open source. Second, we could promote our open source GIS itself to numerous delegates of Smart Geo Expo 2020. [Foss4ga.discuss] Successful Conclusion of FOSS4G-Asia 2014

Dear All, 10 days have passed since the successful conclusion of FOSS4G-Asia 2014. On behalf of the organizers, I will like to thank one and all for support and active participation in FOSS4G-Asia 2014. The conference was attended by more then 112 participants for 18 different countries and by all means a grand success. International Journal of Geoinformatics [1] is planning to bring out Special Issue of FOSS4G-Asia 2014 sometimes in June 2015. We will send notifications to authors whose papers will be shortlisted for the special issue by the scientific committee of FOSS4G-Asia 2014. Three awards were presented as below. 1) Best FOSS4G Use Case Award to Kazeem Owolabi and others for "Use case: supporting polio eradication and Ebola outbreak response" 2) Best FOSS4G Developer Award to GÃ©rald Fenoy and NIcolas Bozon for "MapMint: The 100% service-oriented GIS platform" 3) Best Poster Award to Jayasinghe and others for "Assess the level of vulnerability to climate exaggerated disasters in Sri Lankan Coastal Areas: An Application of Open Source Geographic Information System" 2015 we will have the global gathering of FOSS4G in Seoul [2] and a special Asian Session at FOSS4G-2015 was announced by the Conference Chair Mr. Sanghee Shin during FOSS4G-Asia 2014. We hope to see all of you at FOSS4G-Seoul in 2015. FOSS4G-Asia will be held again in 2016 somewhere in Asia. If have any suggestion for the FOSS4G-Asia 2016 venue, please let us know. This FOSS4G-Asia Conference mailing list [3] will remain active and if you have any feedback to help to improve the future conference, please feel free to write on the ML. Dear all, I am amazed by the support we receive from all parts of the world in this dark days of sadness, fear and pain and on behalf of all the Sri Lankan community, I wish to say thank you everybody for standing with us and share our sorrow. Each thought, each word, each message means a lot to us to walk through this darkness. With my wounded heart I wish to add this as well-There is no tragedy than shattered humanity. There is no value of anything when we, human race failed to accept each other despite all differences. I wish no evil like what we experience now would ever happen in any place on the mother earth!!
